The Historic State (Malacca)

Melaka, sometimes spelt Malacca is the historical state of Malaysia, rich with heritage buildings, ancient landmarks and colonial structures. It was here that colonial forces first made contact with Malaysia, which eventually shaped the country into its current economic and political system.

Today, in Malacca, you can still see the imprints of British, Dutch and Portuguese forces left behind in forts, museums, churches and towers. Visit Malacca for the cultural experience of a lifetime.

Christ Church Melaka
The Christ Church in Melaka was built by the Dutch in 1753, the oldest Protestant church in Malaysia. The 8 foot long ceiling beams are cut in one piece and constructed without joints. The handmade pews are original and date back over 200 years.
The Clock Tower in front of the Christ Church was built in 1886 by Mr Tan Jiak Kim to fulfill the promise from his father Tan Beng Swee to build the tower for Melaka town. In 1982 a Japanese company, Seiko-K Hattori donated a new clock for the tower and the original clock is on display within the Malacca Museum.

St Pauls Church Melaka

St Pauls Church was originally a small chapel built by the Portuguese in 1521 by Captain Duarto Coelho, originally called 'Nosa Senhora - Our Lady of the Hill'. The chapel was given to the 'Society of Jesus' in 1548 who added a second level and then a tower in 1590. When the Dutch took control of Melaka they completed the building and renamed it to St Pauls Church in 1753. There are old tombstones inside the ruins of the church of the orignal Portuguese and Dutch settlers.

Eye on Malacca
Situated on the banks of Melaka River, just opposite the old Cathay Cinema near Jalan Hang Tuah bridge, the 25-metre-high Eye on Malacca is Malacca’s latest tourist attraction. It is expected to be bigger than Taman Tasik Titiwangsa’s Eye on Malaysia, as two other attractions have been added on to it – a trampoline bungee and a pirate ship – which can be experienced as a bundled deal along with a ride on the Eye on Malacca.

Unlike Eye on Malaysia, Eye on Malacca is expected to be a permanent attraction in the state. Consisting of 16 pods, with each pod able to accommodate five adults at one time, patrons can enjoy a sprawling view of Malacca town from the highest point of the wheel, which is truly a sight to behold on a clear, sunny day. At night, the whole attraction area bursts into life with neon lights and colourful lightings, providing a spectacular sight from afar.

A’Famosa Resorts

Jonker Walk
A definite haven for antique collectors and bargain hunters. Authentic artifacts and relics, some dating as far back as 300 years, can be found among a host of interesting collectibles, each with its own history and mystery. Jalan Hang Jebat, formerly known as Jonker Street, is known worldwide among serious antique collectors as one of the best places to hunt and bargain for antiques.Recently, a new wave of cafes and craft shops have sprouted on this street, lending it a cultured air of old-meets-new.
